Look: LP senators will block PNP Drug war budget for 2018

Liberal Party (LP) senators unite against the Philippine National Police (PNP). They recently made a statement wherein they will block the PNP's 2018 budget for drug war campaign which is commonly known as Oplan Tokhang (also known as Oplan Double Barrel Reloaded).

LP senators claimed that the PNP is requesting for a drastic budget from P20 million to P900 million budget for 2018 on their Oplan Tokhang.

"We will reject the 4,400-percent increase in the budget for Oplan Tokhang (also called Oplan Double Barrel Reloaded) if the PNP will insist on continuing the oplan that has already claimed thousands of lives, including young victims," Minority Leader Franklin Drilon said.

"Kailangan nating matiyak na ang pondong ito ay hindi ginagamit o gagamitin bilang pagkukunan ng gantimpala ng pamahalaan sa mga alagad ng batas para pumatay ng kapwa Pilipino sa madugo at mapang-abusong giyerang ito kontra droga," Senator Francis "Kiko" Pangilinan, president of the LP, added.

Formerly, the drug war campaign was known as Oplan Tokhang but due to some irregularities caused by rogue policemen. It is now known as Oplan Double Barrel - Reloaded.

The LP senators are using the deaths of 17-year old Kian delos Santos and 19-year old Carl Angelo Arnaiz who were both allegedly killed by police officers. Delos Santos as seen in a CCTV footage being dragged by two police officers before his dead body was found while Arnaiz was found to be handcuffed before he was shot three times in the chest.

However, according to the mother of Reynaldo "Kulot" de Guzman, 14, a child companion of Arnaiz, a certain MJ whom she identified as a friend of her son, asked her several times if Kulot was already at home. After knowing that his friend is still not home, he told Kulot's mother that Arnaiz persuaded him to rob [holdap].

Arnaiz' father denied and claimed his son will never do such thing.

De Guzman was found in Gapan, Nueva Ecija, sustaining over 20 stab wounds while his face was covered with packaging tape.
