READ: Reason Why Espenido's reassignment to Iloilo City cancelled, stays in Ozamiz City

Change of plans.

If incoming Iloilo City Police Office chief Chief Inspector Jovie Espenido would be asked where he wanted to be assigned next, he previously said that he would want to finish what he started in Ozamiz City to eradicate illegal drug trades completely.

Ozamiz City Councilor Ricardo "Ardot" Parojinog is still at large. He wasn't present when police raid happened  where his brother, Mayor Reynaldo Parojinog, and 15 others were killed.

Thankfully, his wish was granted.

Espenido reassignment to Iloilo City has been cancelled, the announcement was made on September 2 by Police Regional Office 6 (PRO6) Director Cesar Binag in a press conference on a raid that resulted to the death of the notorious Western Visayas drug lord Richard Prevendido, and later confirmed it in other media. He also stated that Senior Superintendent Henry Biñas will take over the Iloilo City post instead.

When asked why the sudden change of plans, Binag said the order was given to them by PNP headquarters in Camp Crame.

"Kami dito, sabi ko nga, 'yung assignment ni Espenido, we welcome 'yan kasi magiging malaking tulong 'yung experience sa lugar, 'yung kanyang accomplishments malaking maitutulong. 'Yun nga lang, nagbago decision ng national headquarters. Kami ay susunod lang naman doon," Binag said.

Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Ronald "Bato" Dela Rosa confirmed the news through the media.

"He will remain in Ozamiz City," Dela Rosa said in a text message.

"Magpeople power ang mga Ozamiz residents kung maalis si Espenido from Ozamiz. They feel unsafe unless (Ricardo) "Ardot" Parojinog is accounted for," Dela Rosa told reporters.

Meanwhile, Espenido's elder brother is concerned for his brother's life which is why he wants to join in his next assignment if the PNP HQ would allow him to follow his brother he is willing to leave his current post.

"Mas maganda kung masasamahan ko siya. Mas mapapanatag ang loob ko. Mainam din kasi na may kapatid kang kasangga sa ganitong bagay. May proprotekta sayo," said the elder Espenido.

SPO4 Espenido is currently assigned at Cebu Provincial Police Office as the head of the Special Weapons and Tactics team.

Originally, PCI Espenido will be sent to Iloilo City as the new chief.

"Your next assignment is Iloilo," Duterte told Espenido in a speech. The chief executive wanted Espenido to keep an eye on Iloilo Mayor Jed Mabilog who is among the government officials named as a narcopolitician in the city.

"You asked for the assignment sa Leyte, namatay ang mayor doon. You asked for another assignment sa Ozamiz, namatay ang mayor doon - si Parojinog. Ngayon gusto mo sa Iloilo kasi nga si Mabilog has been identified as a protector," Duterte said.

"Mabuhi kaya siya? Gusto ko nang tanungin kasi ako naman ang pagbibintangan. Ikaw ang nagbaril diyan tapos ako ang mapa-publish kung saan-saan," Duterte joked.

The President's reason was because Espenido has the dedication for his work which gave Duterte the idea of letting him fix the problem in Iloilo.

"He knows his law so he should replicate his exploits in other parts of the country. He wants to be assigned in Iloilo, I will assign him there," Duterte told reporters in a chance interview.
